# Connect Rankvisit

Rankvisit is a remote MCP server with read-only access to the user's Google Search Console data and, optionally, Fathom Analytics or Simple Analytics.

- Transport: Streamable HTTP
- Authorization: OAuth 2.1 in the browser (the user signs in with Google and clicks Allow)

## Rules for the agent

1. Find out which host you run in: Claude Code or Codex. Configure only that host. Other hosts are not supported yet.
2. Use the host's own remote MCP and OAuth support. Do not install other software.
3. Never ask for, store, or show passwords, API keys, or tokens. The browser sign-in handles access.
4. If a server named `rankvisit` already exists with a different URL, ask the user before you replace it.
5. Do not edit Claude Code or Codex config files by hand. Use their CLI commands.

## Claude Code

1. Check: `claude mcp get rankvisit`
2. If it is missing, add it:
   `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user rankvisit https://rankvisit.com/mcp`
3. Start the sign-in: `claude mcp login rankvisit`
4. Ask the user to finish the sign-in in the browser (Google, then Allow).

## Codex

1. Check: `codex mcp get rankvisit`
2. If it is missing, add it:
   `codex mcp add rankvisit --url https://rankvisit.com/mcp`
3. Start the sign-in: `codex mcp login rankvisit`
4. Ask the user to finish the sign-in in the browser (Google, then Allow).

## ChatGPT and Claude.ai

These apps cannot be configured by an agent. Tell the user to add a custom connector by hand with the address https://rankvisit.com/mcp:

- Claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Create.

## After the connection

1. Confirm that the sign-in finished, and tell the user that Rankvisit is connected.
2. Call `google_search_console_list_properties` before the first Search Console question.
3. All tools are read-only. Search Console data has a delay of about 2–3 days.
4. If a tool returns `subscription_required` or `source_not_connected`, show the user the `action_url` from the error.
5. Analytics tools (Fathom, Simple Analytics) appear only when the user connected them. After the user adds one, reconnect so the new tools load.
